ARTISTS STUDIOS

Four artist studio booths are available for hire as part of the newly refurbished internal space at Kirks Place. The Chapel will also be home to a community co-working space.

Studios are available for short or long-term artist residencies. We have adopted this method to ensure a beautiful rotation of artists and art forms throughout the space - keeping the culture of the space vibrant while ensuring everyone gets a chance to call this space home.

Studio artists have access to the space 24/7. All studio booths have a personal power point and access to kitchen facilities. Follow the link below to view rental rates and availability.

We are excited to work alongside resident artists to offer artist-led community workshops, Q+A sessions and previews of work in development.

Co-Working Space

In addition to the studio booths, The Chapel is home to a newly refurbished community co-working space consisting of both internal and external working spaces. It centres around a large communal table - Table In Common - that sits at the heart of The Chapel.

No matter the project, all are welcome to pull up a chair. You can choose a shady spot in one of the gardens, a seat at the Table in Common or fly solo on one of the smaller tables available. You can work for an hour or a whole day, 9-5 with full access to the kitchen facilities to help fuel your activities. There is plenty of space and no need to book.

A donation of between $5 - $10 is suggested to help cover the basic operational costs to have this space open to the community.

Opening hours: by appointment ph: 0451 119 459

REFLECTIONS ON HOW OUR GARDEN GROWS

by Lisa Barker

Article By Lisa Barker

“To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves” Mahatma Gandhi (1869-19480)

Last Sunday, after a beautiful working bee afternoon in The Garden at 11 Kirk Rd, Point Lonsdale, followed by a sublime shared supper hosted by Lighthouse Arts Collective, I hopped into bed feeling that my nature connection bucket was full.

It was in May of 2021 that I glimpsed Suzie Wyllie sitting at the garden table and so I ventured in and introduced myself. I had walked past many times and wondered what the story was. This ‘once was a car park space I knew so well was absolutely blossoming and I was curious to understand what was growing there. I think in truth I needed a little hope at around that time as the pandemic continued to crush our collective spirits in myriad ways. I felt physically and emotionally uprooted and the garden seemed like an ideal spot to seek out some much-needed grounding and connection.

Since my first beautiful chat with Suzie, I have been blissfully involved as a volunteer in the garden. I am there each week and coordinate a roster for community members who might like to spend time there too. Naturally, we are growing so much more than fruit, vegetables, perennials and grasses. We are having a beautiful conversation with nature and with each other as we gather. It is a restorative experience and we’d love to invite you along too.

On the last Sunday of every month, we host The Grow Sessions, a community working bee in the garden. We roll up our sleeves at 2.30 pm, work for a couple of hours and then if desired, we stay on for a shared Supper which I highly recommend.

Please come join us and be part of the creative magic that is The Garden at Lighthouse Arts Collective home at 11 Kirk Rd.
