Dear Friends, 

It seems like only a few short years ago that a bunch of friends formed a small ‘collective’ to produce creative events for our local community. In fact, it is six years next month that the Lighthouse Arts Collective was officially launched. 

From the very start, we have been buoyed by the immediate and passionate uptake to participate in everything we threw at you, from exhibitions, workshops, live performances, dancing in the dark and supper. 

Each event has helped to grow a culture of deep listening and generous participation, spurred on by our incredible programmed artists, the warmth of our community and the dedication of our board members, volunteers and generous partners. 

Now six years on, it’s time for us to re-evaluate what we do and how we present events for our wonderful community.

Over the last six months, it’s become increasingly apparent that challenges remain for a small Arts Collective like ours. 

Rising costs, unpredictable tickets sales, more difficult access to grant funding, and precarious financial times ahead, combined with ‘life’ pressures on all of us and the real possibility of team fatigue, means that we have to take a few months break and spend some time working out how we move forward.

We’ll take some time to reimagine the creative experiences we hope to offer our community and our artists and then reboot for a strong and bright future. 

In the meantime, there are countless people to thank - friends who have guided, supported, encouraged and championed the work of The Collective. 

To the team at UnitingQueenscliff, thank you for welcoming us to Kirks Place, your invitation to call it home laid the foundation for all that has followed.

To our programmed artists, thank you for gifting us with your talent, bravery and passion. You have helped to create lifelong memories that continue to bring joy and connection. 

To our family, friends, and community members that make up the sea of faces that fills New Hall time and time again, it has been such a privilege to share time with you, side by side in the wonder of creativity.

There have been countless moments that have taken our breath away. Some seem to pause time, others over in a second but with us for a lifetime. 

Our decision to “pause” was not an easy decision to make. However, we believe that it will allow us to find a way forward that speaks to further creative expansion, playfulness and adventure.
